lilli

I was under the influence of Lippstueck’s dreamy voice and jayrope’s random percussions  and sound loops when I drew the cover for Air Cushion Finish‘s latest release, lilli. ACF is best consumed live, if you can get your hands on a fresh set of this evasive duo. They have also teamed up with Gatis Silde on a more permanent basis and this album also guest-features Lukas Lonski from Lonski & Classen. Dates for their Spring Tour are on Facebook, and if you cannot get a printed version of the album by catching them on tour, you can at get the music on Bandcamp. Do not miss!

Fish off / Fish on

Whilst walking around the aquarium one day, admiring all the colourful fish under neon lights, a friend’s daughter pointed to a black fish and said, in her native french: Regardes, le poisson il est éteint! (Look, the fish is turned off!)

How could I resist? I illustrated Poisson éteint / Poisson allumé (Fish off / Fish on ) – Although the french word “éteint” specifically refers to a light that is turned off, so it has a better impact than the translation.

This is why

I know I haven’t blogged yet this year – I have been extremely busy setting up and starting to shoot for my new business. Mixing my experience with children and my skills as an illustrator, designer and photographer, it made perfect sense to venture into kid’s photography. Some really cool projects are in the works that I cannot discuss yet, but you can see the first shoots here: Maia Beyrouti Photography

I’ll be based in Berlin, but will also be shooting in London and the French Riviera on occasion.

Leaping Cossacks! Free paper puppet download

As promised, here is the Cossack paper puppet ready to cut and pin together – just download the free pdf file below. You can either print a colour version to cut and attach together, or a black & white one so that you can colour him in as well. Have fun!

I recommend printing this project on card stock. If card is too thick for your printer, don’t worry, you can print it on regular paper, just glue it to some card afterwards. (tip: placing it under some books whilst it dries will help it stay flat. Be careful not to get glue on the books!)

Click on the image or download here. Click here for the black & white version.

Kazatchok!

Little preview of issue 2 of SQUISH in the works – theme is Russia. You’ll be able to make this cossack dancer come to life with your kids very soon!

In the meantime, you might want to practice some leaping.
